Why this is often the option we recommend first
All-on-4 gets most of the attention, and for some patients it is genuinely the right answer. But an implant overdenture deserves a serious look before you commit to fixed treatment, for three practical reasons.

Fewer implants and a less involved procedure mean less surgical trauma, easier healing, and a treatment many patients tolerate far more comfortably.
Meaningfully lower cost
An overdenture is typically a substantially smaller investment than a fixed full-arch bridge, which for many patients is the difference between treating this year and putting it off indefinitely.
Close to fixed-level stability
With four locator attachments rather than two, retention approaches what patients expect from fixed teeth. It still comes out for cleaning, but it does not move while you eat.
The part most practices cannot offer you
Locator attachments have replaceable inserts, and those inserts come in different retention strengths. That means the grip of your denture is adjustable.
If it feels too tight when you are learning to take it in and out, we soften it. As your dexterity improves, or if it starts to feel loose over the years, we increase it. It is a quick chairside change of the insert, not a remake.
This matters more than it sounds. A great many denture complaints are really retention complaints, and with a locator system that is a dial we can turn rather than a problem you live with.

Frequently asked questions
Can my existing denture be converted?
Often, yes. If your current denture fits reasonably and the teeth are in good condition, housings can frequently be fitted into it rather than starting over. Bring it to your consultation and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth adapting.
How many implants do I need?
Two can transform a lower denture that has never been stable. Four gives noticeably better support and is what we suggest when you want it to feel close to fixed teeth. Upper dentures generally benefit from four.
Does it still come out?
Yes, by design. You take it out to clean it and the attachments underneath, which is genuinely easier to keep hygienic than a fixed bridge. It will not come out on its own while eating or speaking.
My denture keeps getting looser. Is that normal?
It is common, and it is caused by bone shrinking under a denture that does not load it. Implants slow that process because they transmit force into the bone the way natural roots did.
Will the attachments wear out?
The nylon inserts wear with use and are designed to be replaced. It is a routine, inexpensive swap at a normal appointment, and it is also how we adjust retention.
