Those pink hubs are the introducer needles. Each one carries a fine polydioxanone thread — the same absorbable material used in surgical suture for decades. The threads are laid into the dermal layer across the forehead in a mesh pattern.
Then comes the part that surprises people: the needles are withdrawn and the threads remain behind, sitting invisibly under the skin. Nothing protrudes. There is nothing to remove later. Over the following months the polydioxanone dissolves completely.
These are soft threads, not lifting threads. They carry no barbs and they do not pull tissue anywhere. Their job is to provoke your fibroblasts — the cells that build collagen — into producing again in an area where the skin has thinned. The smoothing you see immediately is partly the threads themselves; the durable improvement comes from the collagen your body lays down over the next few months.
Soft Threads Versus Botox on the Forehead
They solve different problems and are often used together.
Botox relaxes the muscle that folds the skin. It is the right answer for dynamic lines — creases that appear when you raise your brows or frown, and disappear when your face is at rest.
Soft threads rebuild the skin itself. They are the right answer for static lines — fine creping that is visible even when the muscle underneath is completely relaxed, and for skin that has simply become thinner and less resilient.
If your lines are still there when your face is still, relaxing the muscle further will not remove them. That is the point at which threads earn their place.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does placing PDO threads hurt?
The area is numbed with topical and local anaesthetic first. Most patients report pressure and an odd pulling sensation rather than pain. Tenderness for a few days afterward is normal.
Can you feel the threads afterward?
Occasionally, for the first week or two, as slight firmness. They are not visible and they soften as the tissue settles. By the time they dissolve you will have forgotten they are there.
How long until I see the result?
There is some immediate smoothing, but the real change builds over six to twelve weeks as collagen forms. Most patients keep a worthwhile result for around 12 to 18 months.
Is there downtime?
Minimal. Expect some swelling and possibly small bruises at the entry points for a few days. Avoid facial massage, saunas and strenuous exercise for about a week, and sleep on your back for the first several nights.
Can I have threads and Botox at the same appointment?
Usually yes, and it is a common combination. Dr. Loukas will sequence them within the visit.
