All about Dental Bonding
Dental bonding uses the same composite resin material used to place filling to correct imperfections that may be ruining the overall beauty of your smile. This exceptionally conservative cosmetic dental procedure can cover up a number of flaws, such as:
- Severe stains that are unaffected by professional teeth whitening treatments.
- Chipped teeth.
- Fill in gapped teeth.
- Extend the length of a short tooth so the teeth look even.
During this procedure, the tooth is carefully cleansed and specially prepared to receive the restoration. The composite material is placed and allowed to harden (cure) under a special light. Your Park Ridge dentist will then shape the resin to achieve the ideal shape and shine for that tooth. Composite dental bonding material can also be used as an alternative to a crown on an anterior (front) tooth, by placing a coating (veneer) over the entire front surface. This procedure is a relatively simple one that can be performed in our office in a single visit.
All about Tooth Contouring
Whereas dental bonding improves the appearance of a tooth by adding material to it, contouring enhances a tooth b removing a small amount of enamel. Tooth contouring is also a relatively conservative procedure that can address a number of smile problems, such as:
- Overlapping teeth.
- Teeth with jagged or pointy edges.
- Rough or pitted surfaces.
- Shorten the length of a longer tooth so the teeth look even.
Dr. Loukas can perform tooth contouring in the office. Before proceeding with the treatment, though, we will need to thoroughly assess the strength of your enamel to make sure it can withstand the contouring process.
